## World settings

World-level settings apply to the shared setting. They include its name, premise, standing guidance for the assistant, and the unit used for numeric world time.

Write guidance as a clear preference, such as “Preserve ambiguity in supernatural explanations” or “Ask before inventing a new faction.” Guidance helps the assistant, but you should still inspect its changes.

Use one time unit consistently across dated entries. Changing the unit label does not automatically convert all existing numeric dates.

## Ontology

**Ontology** lists the kinds of entries and relationships the world uses. Start with the built-in types. Add a custom type only when it represents a meaningful distinction in your world.

An entry type defines a category; an individual entry is one member of it. “Spaceship” can be a custom type, while “The Wayfarer” is an entry.

## Book settings

Each book has its own title, genre, audience, word goal, and order. These are separate from the shared world premise and bible. Use the book's **Settings** tab and save changes explicitly.

## Appearance

Open **Settings** from the account area, then use **Appearance** to personalize your workspace. Changes apply immediately and are saved in this browser, across your worlds. They do not sync to other browsers or devices. Other collaborators keep their own preferences.

Choose **Literary Studio**, **Living Atlas**, **Creative Partner**, **Field Notes**, **Story Loom**, or **Open Workshop**. **Original** preserves the existing neutral appearance and remains the default until you choose a theme. The open-horizon mark, mixed-case ImagineMate wordmark, and navigation labels stay consistent across themes. The mark is adjusted for small sizes so it remains clear in the app and browser tab.

Use **System**, **Light**, or **Dark** independently of the theme. **System** follows your operating system, including changes while the app is open. The workspace and board appearance follow this choice; board drawings keep their own colors.

**Interface typography** changes headings: keep the theme default, or choose clean sans, literary headings, or notebook headings. Controls keep their familiar typeface. **Manuscript font** changes your reading view between sans serif and serif without editing the document or changing what collaborators see. Browser zoom can make text and controls larger.

The preview uses fictional content from The Unfinished Atlas. It is a sample, not a world you are editing. **Reset to defaults** restores Original, system appearance, theme-default headings, sans serif manuscript text, and a clear, direct assistant tone.

If browser storage is unavailable, preferences apply for the current visit and the page explains how to keep them. Clearing this site's browser storage removes the saved preferences.

## Assistant tone

In **Settings → Appearance**, choose **Clear & direct**, **Thoughtful & reflective**, **Curious & exploratory**, or **Warm & encouraging**. Tone is independent of the visual theme.

Your choice applies when you send the next message, including in an existing conversation. It does not rewrite earlier replies, change the selected model, change your manuscript's voice, or change the rules for canon, uncertainty, permissions, and product help. App labels and error messages stay consistent. The tone preview is an illustrative example; actual replies depend on your conversation.
